Backdrop CMS

Backdrop CMS is a Drupal 7 fork with a sharper focus on small-business and non-profit use cases. It keeps the parts of Drupal that worked (a real database, real users and permissions, a real content model) and drops the parts that made Drupal feel heavy.

What we use Backdrop for

  • Migrations from Drupal 7. The site structure and content model carry across with very little re-shaping. Themes need re-tooling but the data is mostly intact.
  • Content-heavy small business sites where a flat-file generator would feel constrained.
  • Sites that need real users. Member directories, committee admin areas, restricted content sections.

If you're building a brochure site without those constraints, a lighter platform may make more sense. That's a conversation we'll have early.

Hosting and support

We host and support Backdrop sites the same way we host our own builds: backups, security updates, bug fixes and one annual invoice. If you've already got a Backdrop site running somewhere else and want us to take it over, tell us about it.
