C
CMS (Content Management System)
The software that lets you change the content on your website without writing code. WordPress, Drupal and Backdrop are all examples.
D
Domain name
The address of your website (e.g. yourbusiness.com.au). It's how customers find you in a browser and how you advertise the site on business cards, brochures and email signatures.
H
Hosting
The service that runs your website on a server, 24/7. Without hosting, your domain name has nowhere to point.
HTTPS / SSL
The padlock icon next to your domain in the browser. HTTPS encrypts the connection between your visitor and your server, so passwords and form data can't be read by anyone listening in. Google ranks HTTPS sites higher and shows a warning on sites without it.
R
Responsive design
A website that adapts to the screen it's viewed on (desktop, tablet or phone) so the layout always reads well. Every PackWeb site is responsive by default.
S
SSL certificate
The digital certificate that enables HTTPS on your site. We include one in every hosting plan.
W
Web server
The computer that runs your website. PackWeb's servers run in Australian data centres and are backed up daily.
